Many of us hold the assumption that we are broken and need to be fixed before we can move forward in life. In this effort to “fix” ourselves, we work really hard to control our thoughts and feelings, only to discover that this is exhausting and, ultimately, unworkable. The longer we are stuck in this struggle, the greater the number of precious moments that slip away. I aim, through my approach, rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help you create new ways of relating to your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations that liberate you to courageously show up to life.
I treat a variety of concerns and questions in individual COUNSELLING with late adolescents and adults.
The following are common areas of focus:
- Feelings of Anxiety and Depression
- Traumatic Events/Trauma Recovery
- Relationship Change/Loss/Distress
- Life and Spiritual Transitions
Relationships & Couples Therapy
Couples play our symbolic themes that come to dominate their lives together, such as “I will be abandoned” or “my partner should meet all of my needs.” Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy combined with Schema Focused Couples Therapy, we collaboratively work toward detecting these themes and the pain they produce and change the avoidant coping strategies that maintain these themes in disrupted relationships.
Common areas of emphasis are:
- Interpersonal/Relationship Skill Building
- Dating/Emerging Relationships
- Couples Therapy
- Emerging Parenthood
If you’re ready to schedule a session with me or have any additional questions about my practice, I look forward to speaking with you!
